My hidden macro garden

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.

Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.

The wind will blow their own freshness into you,

and the storms their energy,

while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

John Muir

The Deer Park [Wordless Wednesday]

Photos are from a walk from the Deer Park by the Eremitage Castle.
I'm really happy each time my friend and I get to go out and about on a "photo walk".
She took the picture of me above - it is nice to be in the frame, that does not happen so often.

Happy Wordless Wednesday to you,

Nina

A part of something bigger

Each of us is carving a stone, erecting a column,

A Touch of Foraging

Finding bits of beauty of something that is worn, fallen, dried ... Foraged.

Foraged is the theme for our first assignment, sparking new inspiration to still life photography, in the class of Studio 2.0 by Kim Klassen.

Old books ... They feel like old friends, and are some of my favorite finds from flee markets. I cherish the yellow, worn pages ...
Sometimes I wonder, who has been holding the book in his / her hands, where has it been read, which books has it been standing next to on a book shelf.

And ...I may have found my favorite Lightroom preset: I have failed for Kim's kk_Justa -preset, that creates a faded, dusty matte mood. I have tweaked the preset slightly, increasing the shadows and pumping the contrast up a bit.

Holding All In Being

I can see the love in a flower
the foraging of a Bee

a Sunrise and Sunset
Noon and everything in between

but the love they all point to
is beyond all wildest dreams

a love in love with creating
a love holding all in being.

What type of foraged is calling for your attention?

October 2015 [Month in Photos]

This fall has been gentle with us - the weather has been warm and dry. The falling leaves have painted the city with yellow, red and orange - Such a magnificient sight!

I especially cherish the sound of the leaves - the sharp and crispy noise - when the wind is whirling them around on the street. I bike to work every morning, and the sight of the morning sun highlighting the orange leaves against the road makes me smile ... Yes, I'm grateful for the autumn season!

We've rediscovered the juicer - our teens get more vegetables when the greens become less visible, disguised as a fresh juice - the mint leaves and a few fruits spices the drink up. And I am learning to use the left over fibers in baking and in soups - freezing it to small portions, ready to be used.

Above a video from the photos from October ... Like I said on Instagram, I haven't quite taken a photo each day, but have captured a bunch of meaningful moments. The Collect Photo App makes it easy to store these moments, journalize a bit, and make cards or photo-videos of the images.

I hope you're enjoying the season at hand ... As it is unfolding in your neighborhood and your part of the world.

... Until next time,
Nina

You did it for me

“Then the King will speak to those on his right. He will say, ‘My Father has blessed you. Come and take what is yours. It is the kingdom prepared for you since the world was created. I was hungry. And you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty. And you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger. And you invited me in. I needed clothes. And you gave them to me. I was sick. And you took care of me. I was in prison. And you came to visit me.’

“Then the people who have done what is right will answer him. ‘Lord,’ they will ask, ‘when did we see you hungry and feed you? When did we see you thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you as a stranger and invite you in? When did we see you needing clothes and give them to you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. Anything you did for one of the least important of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matthew 25:34-40 (New International Reader’s Version)

October Forest

We have had Fall Break this week (almost all of us, I had to work 2 days - but it was raining the days I was sitting by the computer and writing rapports, so it didn't matter that much).

The other afternoon we went for a walk to the nearby forest ... and the foliage is surely about to turn in bright yellow, red and orange! The leaves are forming a colorful mosaic all over - Such a pretty sight.

Mushrooms are peeking here and there after the rain, the air is filled with scent of moisture and wet moss ... That is the smell of autumn for me!

The Hareskov forest has special pathways for mountain bikers, with very narrow  trails that go up and down the small hills in the middle of the forest.
There is also an old pilgrimage route, that is crossing this forest - the yellow sign on the blue background marks that route.
The pathways for the horse riding are marked with a white horseshoe sign on the side of the trees.

We met a few families, a bunch of joggers and a biker on our way ... The rain had just stopped, so I guess later on we could have med a few horse rides as well.

Autumn is a favorite season of mine ... So I cherished the afternoon in the forest - the sound of leaves under our feet, the soft light falling through the colored trees, the quiet atmosphere, talking and listening ...

I have edited these photos in Lightroom alone - I created a Lightroom preset called nj_October Forest, that I have used to all these photos, with minor adjustments afterwards. October Forest-preset warms a bit up the colors and rises slightly the saturation. It adds a soft vignette, and has some extra sharpness to bring out the details of the leaves. This preset does not affect or adjust the exposure at all.
You can download the nj_October Forest-preset here - It is a little Fall Break gift from me to you,

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Nina

Grateful November

Sunlight casted a shadow to my office wall this Tuesday ... making me notice, that the skies were blue and clear outside. The yellow leaves were dancing in the wind, falling so elegantly from the chestnut trees under my window - such a pretty sight.

My next meeting was to start in 20 minutes - I grabbed my coat and went outside, admiring the bright sunlight, breathing the cold air - and waiting for the arrival of my colleague.

According to the Danish Meteorological institute, Copenhagen has only had 29 hours of sunshine in November - this maybe the reason why the moments in the sun won't go unnoticed ...

November is a kind of a culmination of fall - The days get shorter and the weather gets colder - we're moving towards winter.

November invites us to
- wear wool socks and warm gloves,
- notice the changing weather from grey and cloudy periods to the moments when the sun breaks out,
- cherish the foliage color play
- bake apple pies and
- light candles in the evenings.

November is also a month of Thanksgiving. I has been a pleasure to see the many images on Instagram feed #gratefulnovember - picturing the small and big things, people are thankful for. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving as such here in Scandinavia, yet there is so much to be thankful for, actually each day, that I wouldn't mind dedicating a special day as a national holiday for Thanksgiving:

Happy Thanksgiving to all the friends in America!

Take delight ...

Oh, how sweet the light of day,
And how wonderful to live in the sunshine!
Even if you live a long time, don’t take a single day for granted.
Take delight in each light-filled hour,
Remembering that there will also be many dark days.

Glimpses of Sunlight - and Dreams of a Tripod

Welcome back, sunlight and blue skies ... Such a pleasure after a week with rain, fog and grey skies! The sun peeked out Friday afternoon - so I biked by the lake, so see the setting sun, on my way home from work.

The weather is getting cold - the crispy, fresh air fills my lungs each morning as I step outside - the temperature may soon be under zero during the nighttime.

The sun is getting up at 8 am, and setting down at 4 pm ... That is my working hours and I am mostly inside ... So I'm cherishing the weekends, having the opportunity to be outside during daylight.

Light is so important, in many ways ... and especially with photography. I prefer taking the advantage of natural light when taking pictures, so I'm using each and every opportunity I get, to snap the daily photos with my iPhone.

Yet winter is a wonderful season for learning low light photography ... which is the reason why tripod for my DSLR is on my wish list. I have been reading lately some articles about slow shutter speed photography, and would really like to experiment more in that area.

What would be important to consider when buying a tripod?
And furthermore - what to consider when photographing with a tripod ... Should I use a timer in order to behave sharpness when photographing with normal shutter speed?

- As you can read, I am thinking about entering into a new, unknown terrain!

... Wishing you a Happy Weekend with Glimpses of Sunlight,

Nina

Path of Peace

Through the heartfelt mercies of our God,
God's Sunrise will break upon us,
showing us the way, one foot at a time,
down the path of peace.

Luke 1:78 The Message

It Is Well by Terry MacAlmon

"Shalom is not just peace but flourishing
flourishing in all dimensions of our existence -
in our relations to God,
in our relation to our fellow human beings,
in our relation to ourselves,
in our relation to creation in general."

In the Silence

My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love.
This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality...

For God is greater than our worried hearts
and knows more about us than we do ourselves.

Lensbaby ML-10 Snapshots - Danish Parliament

The Travellings Lens Project has arrived to Denmark ... I received the Lensbaby Sweet Spot Lens LM-10 for Mobile last Friday from Steffi from Germany.

I am slowly learning to find the sweet spot - my first images were rather blurry, but after a bit training the images are getting sharper and clearer. The Lensbaby Application for iPhone is surely a great help.

I will take the lens with me as I am biking in the city this week, so new Lensbaby images from Copenhagen are on their way soon...

... Sunshine to your week,

Silence speaks

Silence speaks when words can't.

:   :   :

This peaceful sunset made me stop by the city lakes, as I was biking home from work. I sat down and enjoyed the setting sun...

It is already time to say farewell to October ... The 10th month in my Photo A Day-year! Little did I know how well my word Unhurried would be connected to my daily photos ...

These quiet moments outside have really ment a lot to me, given some space that has been good:
Space to think - and not to think, space to let my feet lead the way, space to feel the wind in my hair and mist on my cheek ... space to receive and give a smile ... space for joy and space for sorrow ...

I intend to keep on walking and taking these daily snapshots. A photo a day ...

Here's my daily photos from October:

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Nina
