The Deer Park [Wordless Wednesday]

Photos are from a walk from the Deer Park by the Eremitage Castle.
I'm really happy each time my friend and I get to go out and about on a "photo walk".
She took the picture of me above - it is nice to be in the frame, that does not happen so often.

Happy Wordless Wednesday to you,

Nina

September Sun at Sophienholm

The september sun keeps on shining on us ... from Monday to Sunday this week. It is a pleasure to witness the sunrise in the mornings - see the warm light playing on the trees and reflecting on windows when biking to work - and home again.
Now that it is weekend, one gets a change to spent a whole day outside!

Sophienholm is a former country house by the Lake Bagsværd in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The house and the side buildings belonging to the estate, are being used as an exhibition venue with a restaurant and a café.

The actuel exhibition at Sophielhom is called Himlens fugle, translated freely The Birds in the Sky. This exhibition honors the 50th Anniversary of Fugleværnsfonden, that is a fund protecting birds and nature. I took a few snapshots from the exhibition with my iPhone. I was fond of the aquarelles and the impressive panorama drawings.

There is the most beautiful park between the main house and the Lake Bagsværd. To the right from the house you'll find an impressive greenhouse with seasonal flowers.

I enjoyed the possibility of taking photos with my DSLR - adjusting the settings using manual mode. We're approaching the season, when the days are getting shorter - and the natural light is available only during the day, when you're at work.
So it is in the weekends, one gets a change to make the most out of light and photography.

Burk Uzzle says "Photography is a love affair with life." It is about seeing and noticing, about moods, stories, relations, moments ... as much as it is about light and shadows and frames ...

Well, my analytic mind is playing a trick on me, starting to peel with the words and their mening - What is love? As I see it, love is not just a feeling, but often an act of your will - where you choose to love and show it with concrete actions - to a person, to yourself or in relation to something else. In that sense photography - like any other hobby - asks for diligent training, by a learning process with getting information and practicing with trial-and-error - as well seeking inspiration and putting the camera down ...

We walked slowly and just enjoyed the fresh air ... talking and finding a nice spot to sit every now and then.
A lovely afternoon with my husband and sister-in-law.

... With September sun greetings,
Nina

August sunlight

The sharp August sunlight has been brightening up the neigbourhood here now and then, during this week.

We were in downtown the other day, and I took these snapshots of the old buildings by Israel's Plads.
In the end of the street to the right from the upper image, you'll find the Torvhallerne - two buildings filled with all sorts of delicate and culinaristic specialities, with some cafe's and restaurants as well.

A slight sommercold bug kept me inside two days, but yesterday afternoon I was able to enjoy the sunlight.
During my last visit in the library, I grabbed a random cook book due to the appealing book cover. I was positively surprised when I opened it: Besides the delicious and easy-to-prepare ~ recipes, the author describes small anecdotes of her life. Her love for good and tasty food shines through the lines. The book is written by Sophie Dahl and is called "Miss Dahl's vuloptuous delights".

Summer is ebbing into autumn, the last weekend of summer holidays is at hand ...

All in all, it was a never to be forgotten summer —
one of those summers which come seldom into any life,
but leave a rich heritage of beautiful memories in their going —
one of those summers which, in a fortunate combination of delightful weather,
delightful friends and delightful doing,
come as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.

... Until next time,

Nina

A wonderful day

Today is the first day of summer holidays ... As I opened my eyes this morning, I took a deep breath, smiled and felt just light and grateful. The last two months has been filled with lots of writing and many deadlines at work, and I managed to finish my'to do' list yesterday. My mind has not fully comprehended that yet, but it will sink into my consciousness within a few day, I'm sure.

Our boys have been on vacation for already two weeks, and they have still four weeks to go before the school starts again.
Pita lunch with schwarma and pommes frites is the favourite of your youngest son at the moment, so we went to the Schwarma House at noon ... Just a small treat ... A little celebration of that we're on holidays all together.

I biked to downtown to run some errands. I visited my favourite bookstore and found some titles, hoping to find from Kindle or from the e/book library. I found out that Lisa Genova, whose "Still Alice" I read some years ago, has written also a book called "Left Neglected". The main character, Sarah Nickerson, experiences brain injury, that turns her life upside down ... Lisa Genova is a neuroscientist and a writer. I do like her authentic style of writing, humour with a twist, and the way she describes the characters and weaves the circumstances together.

The Church of Our Lady • Vor Frue Kirke • has a beautiful silhouette. The sun broke out from the clouds as I was crossing over the square, so I took a snapshot. The Church of Our Lady is the National Cathedral of Denmark, and the wedding of Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, and Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, took place in The Chruch of Our Lady in 2004.

Queen Louise's Bridge is one of my favourite places to stop by, when biking in town. The bridge connects the inner city and the Northern part of Copenhagen. There is a bunch of benches on the bridge for people to sit down, together with a fast food stand, like hot dogs, or pancakes. In the summer time there is often times music, and in the evenings young people hang out on the bridge.

In December you can buy a Christamas tree from the bridge, and in New Year's Eve fireworks are being fired from the bridge.

I continued from the Queen Louise's Bridge, biking along the City Lakes, and stopped for a while by a bench.

It happened twice today, that someone asked me about my handbag: "May I ask you where you have gotten your bag from? Is it a vintage one, did you find it from eBay or Trendsales?"

I do like my brown leather bag, even though it is not a vintage one, nor a second hand find. I bought it for a year ago from Spikes & Sparrows, a Dutch brand, that has developed a special tanning process, that gives the vintage like look to the leather.

This is actually my first leather hand bag, that I have bought to myself ... I am mostly a tote bag or backpack type of a person. When the time came, that I needed a leather bag, I spent a few weeks surveying online for a bag, that would suit to my needs: A bag I could use everyday, in every weather and with every kind of outfit. And ~ I am happy about my bag: There is room for a book or two, a bottle of water and a lunch pack, my phone, keys, notebook and a folded tote bag for groceries.
... My first day of summer holidays is turning to an evening.
I cherish the cozy lunch with our youngest today, and am
grateful for being on the other side of the writing marathon at work.
Sipping tea and just being.

Smooth Jazz Melodies

Copenhagen Jazz Festival has started, and there is music all over the town. Nina and Søren Baun - a bother and a sister - held a concert in the cozy Cafe Cadeau.
Café Cadeau is a non profit café run by Frederiksberg Integrationsforening (FIF) and Church Integrations Ministry (KIT). The profit of the café goes to integration and humanitarian projects in Denmark and abroad.

We had an unforgettable evening with a lovely mix of Nina's moody and modern jazzy songs,
and Søren's groovy and light numbers & evergreen cover songs with Latin rhythms.

I hope to get to listen Acoustic Lounge, that is playing in Cafe Cadeau on Monday.
Acoustic Lounge is one of Søren Baun's Jazz Projects.

I recorded short videos from the concert - Video above is recorded with Cinamatic iPhone Application
(a Hipstamatic Style video recoring app).

The video below i recorded wih the build in camera of the iPhone, and edited in iMovie.

Street Life Friday Afternoon [Copenhagen - Hipstamatic]

Sunshine and the cheerful Friday afternoon mood inspired me to take a series of snapshots while running small errands in downtown Copenhagen.
I used Hipstamatic photo application in my iPhone, choosing Jane lens and Runway film. I like the warm tones the Jane lens adds to the photos, and the motion & reflection-effect of the Runway film.

In the old days, you could buy newspapers from these charming "mini towers" - today you can buy a cup of coffee and other refreshments.

The screen of our sons smartphone was broken, so I relayed (once again) on the good and fast service in one of MyTrendyPhone.dk boutiques. Touchscreens of smartphones makes them easy to use - unfortunately also vulnerable and easy to break. I got a panzerglass / an AntiBreak Glass, on the screen ... One might as well use all the tricks available to prolong the lifetime of the screen.

A nostalgic snapshot f the Linnésgade, where the faculty library was situated back in the time I was studying ... All the memories of reading and typing in the library - reading for the exams. The Botanical Garden lies in the end of the Linnésgade - a lovely place to have lunch (we took our sandwiches and thermos jugs and had a break, inhaling the fresh air and chatting away peace in the green surroundings).

When in downtown, I often peek into the Torvehallerne - that is, a market place with 60 stands selling everything from vegetables, fish, meat, tea, bakery ... to flowers and cosmetics.

Tante T has a wide selection of tea - I bought a tea mix called Cool Summer. What is special about this mix is that you can make ice tea very easily - just measure the tea in a pot and pour cold water on the top in the evening, and set the pot into the fridge overnight - in the morning you got the tastiest ice tea! Cool Summer tea contains Green Matcha tea, strawberry, pineapple, mango, apple, sunflower, mint, licorice root and lemongrass.

I like to sit and just watch the people in the subway ... (here I held my iPhone discreet on my lap and snapped the photos without watching the screen - just pointing it to different directions).
Try and notice how many smartphones you'll be able to spot in these photos.

I hope you enjoyed this Friday afternoon photo walk with me in Copenhagen -

Wishing you a great weekend,
Nina
