I grew up in the Finnish lake districk, where the lakes occupy about 25 percent of the Lakeland. When visiting my parents over the summer holidays, we spent a lot of time outside by the lakes.
Finland is known as a country of thousand lakes - there is about 188.000 lakes in Finland, and about 179.000 islands.
So there is plenty of possibilities for rowing, fishing, swimming and other activities by the lakes.
Both my uncle's and dad's summerhouses are located on an island. Spending time on the island, even if the island is just 500 m away from the main land, gives you a feeling of being cut of from the rest of the world - in a good way.
When you're stepping into the boat, your mind is already relaxing ...
We cherished the moments by the lakes - Peaceful, simple life in the Great Outdoors.
... Wishing you a great weekend,
Nina

I love being beside water, it's such a peaceful and relaxing place. Here in Belgium, there's a few lakes but not too make. This weekend, I'm heading to the coast for some relaxing cycling up the coastline! I can't wait!

Belgium is beautiful, I lived 3 years in a beautiful little village (St. Pieters-Leeuw) while attending Bible Collage ... The small roads alongside the fields, the nearby castle and the green, high trees ... Enjoy the weekendtrip with cycling in the coastline!

DeleteOh, life along the lake. I could smell the air and hear the lap of water on the shore as I read and viewed the pictures!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Michele ...I keep getting back to these photos as well ... Coming back to the lovely feeling of time standing still, feeling the sun rays on me cheek - Summer memories are just the best, arent' they!
DeleteHow delightful. A friend of mine from Australia has just spent time with her daughter's family in Finland. The photos were lovely and I could tell it was pretty warm too!

Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog today (cutoffinthekeweenaw.blogspot.com). It caused me to check out your blog. When looking at this post on your trip back home to Finland, I was struck with how similar that area of Finland looks to where I live in the U.S.A. - Keweenaw County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. If someone had showed me your 6th photo of the rowboat out on the lake, I would be certain it was taken on one of the inland lakes in Keweenaw County. I am not Finnish, but many, many Finnish people settled in this area during the copper boom, so Finnish last names are very common here. I've never been to Denmark, but my late uncle often traveled to Copenhagen on business. He loved Denmark.
